Use Coconut oil as make-up remover, body lotion, shave cream, and penetrating hair treatment. Organic, cold-pressed & extra virgin coconut oil for hair and body.

Tattoo Aftercare with Coconut Oil

Heal Your Tattoo with Coconut Oil.jpg

Tattoos are a beautiful extension of self, like wearing what's inside on the outside. What's more...they're permanent. All the more reason to take care of them from the start. Coconut oil comes highly recommended at any stage of your tattoos life, starting it off right will keep them vibrant for years to come.

There's a couple of reasons coconut oil is the top choice for tattoo aftercare, the first is that it's both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. Capric, caprylic and lauric fatty acids are few of the delightful chemical components coconut oil is known for. These fatty acids are what keep the bacteria at bay and prevent infection. Specifically, lauric acid helps reduce swelling and inflammation and, in turn, impacts any pain that may accompany your new "wound."

Coconut oil rejuvenates the skin by maintaining moisture levels, that's also why it's often used  in beauty regimens targeting anti-aging. The medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil keep the skin smooth and clean so your tattoo doesn't dry out or crack during the healing process. The proteins in coconut oil enable the body to repair and heal damaged cells consistently.

It's all natural, well, our coconut oil is anyway;) The last thing you want to do when you first get a new tattoo is use an aftercare product that doesn't suit your skin and add insult to injury. Coco Luxe is cold-pressed, no heat used in extraction, no chemicals or fertilizers used on the family farms in Fiji where our coconuts are from, making every step of our process from tree to tube 100% and naturally organic-so you're in the clear. If you think you may have any sort of allergy, try coconut oil on a small spot somewhere else on the body before putting it on your tat.

Restoring Coconut Oil & Moringa Leaf Mask

Moringa Oleifera trees have been called the "tree of life." Every bit of the Moringa contains a nutritional element: the bark, its oil & the leaves. It's noted far & wide in vast amounts of literature as the cure for hunger, so it's no surprise that it's great for your skin too. Moringa leaves are made up of 18 amino acids and around 30 antioxidants. It removes impurities while rejuvenating the skin. Mix coconut oil with dried Moringa leaves to your preferred consistency and you. are. set. Leave on about 10-15 minutes & then wipe off.

If Moringa Oleifera is new to you or you'd like to find out more, is a great place to start.

Turmeric Face Mask

Why turmeric?? Because turmeric has been used for centuries to treat acne, blackheads, dark spots and hyper-pigmentation. It helps heal and prevent dry skin, slows the aging process, diminishes wrinkles, keeps skin supple and improveselasticity. It's used daily by East Indian women as a facial cleanser and exfoliant. So adding coconut oil only seems logical! You want it to be a touch grainy so add more turmeric than oil. Leave on 10-20 minutes & rinse & wipe with lukewarm water. Staining could occur if left on longer or used daily so make this a treat for your skin!

Coconut Oil for Healthy Hair

The best coconut oil for your hair is also the best to use on & in your body. Organic & unrefined, extra virgin with the smell of a fresh coconut. That's the tell...if it doesn't smell like a coconut, it's probably been deodorized...and bleached...and refined. Coco Luxe comes in an easy to use tube full of Organic, non-gmo, non-RBD (industry speak for refined, bleached, & deodorized), Extra Virgin coconut oil.

Using coconut oil in your hair is the perfect alternative, or addition to, your current beauty regime. You can use it as a hair mask or a deep conditioning treatment. It can tame fly-aways, repair split-ends, and even prevent gray hair. This is powerful stuff. So powerful you only need about a dime size dollop... a little goes a long way!

For an overnight mask, squeeze a small bit into the palm of your hand & start at the roots, working the coconut oil to the ends. Slip on a shower cap & wear overnight. Do a double wash in the morning to avoid oily or greasy looking locks.

For dry or split ends, squeeze a barely bit into the palm of your hand & rub between the finger tips, then work it into the ends of your hair-but careful, not too much.

For a 2 hour deep moisture treatment & gray hair prevention, squeeze a dime sized dollop into the palm of your hand, then work into roots to the length of your hair, pin up or wrap in a towel. In 2 hours, do a quick double wash & style as usual.

Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil

Oil Pulling is the traditional Ayurvedic method of detoxifying & healing the body. It's a very simple process however it yields some magnificent results. Most noted are whiter teeth, softer feet, healed gums, tightened loose teeth, fresher breath, & better overall health. The act of actually swirling or swishing the oil around in your mouth activates the eliminatory system & the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood without disturbing the healthy microflora necessary to the body.

The act is simplicity itself, squeeze a tablespoon of oil onto a spoon, pop it in your mouth & swish, swirl, & suck it between your teeth. The keys for it to be 100% effective are to swish on an empty stomach & to keep it going for 20 minutes.  While many people find other activities to do while "swishing", a calm or meditative state is recommended. When your 20 minutes is up...Don't swallow it! It's now full of toxic waste fromYOUR body! So the safest bet is to spit it in the trash or the toilet then rinse your mouth with salt water & brush your teeth.

Tips for a Successful Swish

To guarantee an empty stomach try pulling first thing in the morning before breakfast, a great way to start your day! 20 minutes can seem like a long time in the beginning, start yourself out slow at 5 or 10 minutes & work your way up. Before you know it, it will have become second nature. And instead of spitting it in the trash, keep an old pickle or coconut oil jar under the bathroom sink to spit into & dispose of it all at once. That will ensure the bacteria from your mouth & body stays safely off your surfaces. Another wise tip is to pre-mix your salt water & keep it in a container in your medicine cabinet (next to your tube of coconut oil) so it's a hassle free rinse. Lastly, if you can help it & there's time in your day, to maintain a peaceful or meditative state, find some chants on YouTube & relax or listen to something calming instead of doing chores. Happy Swishing!

Coconut Oil for Great Skin

The diversity of this most amazing oil will leave you awestruck. Yes, you can use it to wash your face. It's anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, & anti-fungal, these properties (capric & lauric acids) lend itself to cleaning your face while not only moisturizing it through it's Vitamin E content, but actually balancing the moisture (oil or sebum) your skin already produces. It also has a sloughing effect due to the high amount of Vitamin A in coconut oil. It regulates the skin cells so they don't shed too quickly or stay too long leading to blemishes & acne. It is absorbed quickly through the skin, so a sure sign that you've over done it is that your skin stays shiny (like an oil slick) long after you've applied it!

With clean dry hands squeeze a dime size bit into your hands, rub them together to liquefy the coconut oil & then apply it to your face. Massage it gently into your skin for at least 45 seconds (rule of thumb when applying anything to the face is to use an upward sweeping motion-and be GENTLE, fingertips only). Then place a warm washcloth over your face until it cools, then wipe away the oil-again, gently. Repeat if you like.

Coconut Oil for Energy & Weightloss

So among the myriad of uses, all positive uses by the way, for coconut oil, you can take it straight & it will convert to energy (along with a few other simultaneous tasks it handles) in your body. First things first...All fats & calories are not created equal. The main difference in the fats & calories that make up coconut oil is that it contains medium chain fatty acids (triglycerides) rather than long...the body treats those medium chain fatty acids differently than others. They are sent straight to the liver from the digestive tract & used for energy immediately instead of being stored OR they are turned into ketone bodies which provide energy to the heart & brain & other tissues in the body. This is the short & sweet of how coconut oil enhances the metabolism. Coconut oil has also been shown to reduce your appetite & nip that sweet tooth & those carb cravings in the bud! “Up to 1 to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil a day, depending on individual calorie needs, can be a healthy and tasty addition to your diet when replacing other less-healthy calories” (Wendy Bazilian, R.D., author of The SuperFoodsRx Diet).

Tips for Taking Coconut Oil

Cooking with coconut oil is by far the easiest way to add it to your diet, requiring little to no effort by simply replacing your current cooking oil... However, there are certainly other ways... Our #1 recommendation...Put. It. In. Your. Smoothies. If your new to eating coconut oil but are willing to take the plunge, squeezing a bit in your smoothies will help get you geared up organically & put that pep back in your step while helping get used to eating it! Squeezing a bit into your coffee or hot tea is also another very convenient way to get the goodness in every day! But, hey, if you're a go-getter & not afraid of the unknown feel free to shovel it in by the spoonful (or tube-full)!

Coconut Oil Anti-Aging Benefits

One more to add to the list of things coconut oil can remedy...Aging. Good quality coconut oil is chocked full of Vitamin E and antioxidant-rich so it staves off free radicals & the damage they cause. It acts as a protective layer to the skin, much in the same way the oil our body naturally produces (sebum) does, because it's mostly made up of the MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) lauric acid, also found in breast milk. Minimally heated & processed coconut oil (like Coco Luxe) strengthens & hydrates the skin beneath the surface, protecting skin on a cellular level.

Apply coconut oil to your face before you shower to protect skin from the drying effects of water, or immediately after, while the skin is still damp. This will literally lock in the moisture. Coconut oil can be used as a face & body wash, not just a moisturizer, because it contains anti-bacterial, -fungal and -microbial properties.

Coconut Oil For Healthy Pets

We humans are not the only ones to glean the benefits of coconut oil, oh no, turns out it's super healthy for our pets too. Feeding your dog or cat (or goat!) coconut oil helps maintain their healthy coat, helps with allergies, maintains a healthy digestive system and prevents infections, as well as remedy issues in those areas. Just like with humans, pets need saturated fats in their diet and coconut oil is an excellent source in addition to multiple other nutrients your pet needs to stay healthy & build their immune systems.

Coconut oil is good for the outside & the inside, so feel free to slather your pup or piglet with it, especially on skin irritations or cuts...As you may already know if you moisturize with coconut oil and you suddenly realize your dog is lapping up the coconut oil off of your legs...they love the taste of coconut oil. You most certainly won't have any issues feeding it to them! So bonus, it's really good for them & it makes a perfect pet treat.

follow this rule of thumb if you choose to treat them with coconut oil: 1 teaspoon per every 10 pounds or 1 tablespoon per every 30 pounds. While they'll likely beg for more, start them out slowly & build up to that dosage so their body acclimates properly.

Coconut Oil & Baking Soda

Coconut oil is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-microbial & destroys tooth-decaying bacteria. Baking soda is a mild abrasive that helps maintain (or restore) ph balance. And it has whitening capabilities. Together they make a powerful team. Mix coconut oil & baking soda until you get a consistency you like. And if you want to get fancy with it you can add an essential oil like peppermint or grapefruit.

Use this combination to make:

+Toothpaste-make a single-use batch or a month's worth, it will last you a little bit.

+Quick Face Mask or Scrub (think DIY microdermabrasion)

+Foot Scrub-use with a brush or wash rag on rough spots

Pink Himalayan Salt & Coconut Oil Scrub

Pink Himalayan salt is another earth-derived ingredient that has a plethora of uses. Pink Himalayan salt is touted as the purest in the world: it's a wonderful detox agent, mineral-rich, soothes achy joints & muscles, and, wait on's great to treat acne & relax the skin. This simple scrub is rejuvenating, soothing and nourishing. It's just two powerful ingredients but it packs a punch. In addition to scrubs, it makes a great detoxifying bath, mixed with water it can cleanse the face, mixed with water & apple cider vinegar it tones & clears acne, and is the end-all-be-all replacement for table salt. Mix your salt with about equal parts coconut oil and feel free to add essential oils for extra benefits. Let sit about 10 minutes or so & wipe off gently or let it dissolve in a warm shower. For face scrubs you'll want a finely ground salt but a coarse grind is great for the body rougher spots like elbows & feet. Enjoy & rejuvenate.

Honey, Ginger & Coconut Oil Power Mask

Honey, Ginger, Coco Luxe Coconut Oil. That's it. Possibly the most powerful trio you'll ever put ON your face...not to mention if you put them IN your face (you know, eat them!) Honey & coconut oil are the moisturizers of all moisturizers, as well as bacteria fighters & anti-aging combatants. Ginger contains over 40 antioxidants alone, that translates into increased blood circulation, nutrient delivery, free radical damage control, & the beloved elasticity. This mask is a breeze to make too! Finely chop your ginger root, add your coconut oil, then mix in your honey (equal parts honey & coconut oil, give or take). Then slather this powerful bit of perfection all over your face, let it be for 10-20 minutes, then rinse.

Hawaiian Lava Salt & Coconut Oil Mask

Black Lava Salt removes dead skin & increases cell activity. Mix a half a teaspoon of salt with 3/4 a teaspoon of Coco Luxe Coconut Oil and Voila! An exquisitely nourishing (and EASY) refining daily face scrub! Leave on a few minutes longer than a normal scrub so your skin can soak up the goodness. Single use.

Hydrating Coconut Oil & Raw Sugar Scrub

Sugar inherently acts as a humectant, that means it attracts & absorbs moisture from the air & draws it into the surface, in this case, your skin. This is what gives it the ability to moisturize. Sugar also contains naturally occurring glycolic acid. This characteristic encourages cell regeneration and goes hand-in-hand with sugar's exfoliating properties. This scrub can be a lifesaver for an Eczema flair up. It's a simple recipe that's great for dabbling, adding an essential oil is a perfect addition. Use it as a body scrub too, or leave it on longer as a mask & let the sugar work its magic!  Mix the ingredients to a consistency of your liking and voila, ready to apply.
